I am worried about my child, now what?
If you are worried about your child’s development, you can talk with your doctor or you can request an evaluation on your own. If your child is under the age of 3, you will be sending a referral to Early Intervention Colorado. When a child is 0-2, if you qualify for services, these will be in-home services and the structure for service providers and goals will be titled Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP). In an IFSP you will outline goals and service times. If your child is 3-5, you will contact your local Child Find program. If your child qualifies for services, and is ages 3-5, the team will develop an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) that will outline services, goals and placement. These services are school-based and will take place while your child is attending school. In both systems the process will look similar. You will first have an evaluation, then determine eligibility and finally determine the best next steps for your child’s growth and development.
